Lady Gaga

October 5, 2009

Now, I don’t think Lady Gaga really sounds like 80s music, but she is a pretty sweet performer! Take a look at these three versions of her song “Paparazzi”.  I think she kinda gives pop music a much needed kick in the pants!

Saturday Night Live performance from 10.03.  Check out the key-tar action!! Total 80s instrument!

MTV VMAs, I couldn’t find an actual video of the performance that was of any quality, but here is the audio…  You can see the actual performance at MTV.com. If you haven’t seen it, it is well worth checking out. Great performance!

…and of course, here is her original video for the song. Enjoy!

Frankmusik

September 29, 2009

I was checkin out other blogs looking for new bands and came across this gem, Frankmusik.  I found Frankmusik on a post on The New Wave Diva, who credits a Mr. Billy Suede for turning her on to this great little British pop artist.  Check out this video for the song “3 Little Words” off of his debut album “Complete Me.”  Very 80s and very fun!!  The video for “3 Little Words” reminds me of a scene from the 80s movie “Big” with Tom Hanks where he is dancing on the giant keyboard.  Frankmusik has also remixed material from other artists such as Lady GaGa and the Pet Shop Boys.

Here’s a couple more pure pop fun vids from Frankmusik, enjoy!

MTV Video Music Awards

September 14, 2009

The 2009 MTV Video Music Awards payed tribute to music icon Michael Jackson last night, including an introduction by Madonna and a pretty cool performance by Janet Jackson. Madonna and Michael Jackson weren’t the only 80s influences popping up at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards though.  According to MTV.com, “Passion Pit‘s The Reeling pays homage to the 80s not only in its sound but with the creative animated video where everything is a collage.”  The video was nominated in the Breakthrough Video category but lost to Lessons Learned by Matt and Kim. Check out Passion Pit’s video… it is pretty cool.

Also nominated in the same category was “Heads Will Roll” by the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s, another very 80s sounding band.

The Best New Artist award went to Lady GaGa for “Poker Face”.  Even though I can hear simularities to the 80s in some of the synth sounds, I’m not real sure that Lady GaGa is that 80s sounding.   That being said, I know that some people do consider her music to be very 80s sounding, here’s the video, you decide…
