Europe, synthpop, and more Melody Club

October 1, 2009

It seems like a lot of artists that I’ve been checking out lately are European.  From Frankmusik (british) to Elegant Machinery (swedish) to Midnight Resistance (german), it looks like Europe is where it’s at when it comes to synthpop!  And most of it sounds so 80s!  So I’ve started putting locations together with the bands to kind of keep track of what scenes different styles are coming from, just for fun.  In the spirit of this, here’s another video from synthpop group Melody Club (’cause I like ‘em so damn much) and another from Universal Poplab (’cause they’re just too fun) (both bands are from sweden).

Maybe next week we can talk about some american bands like Passion Pit or Shiny Toy Guns…

Universal Poplab

October 1, 2009

Ok, so I was lookin through some music blogs again tryin’ to find new bands to post and I came across a review of Elegant Machinery’s “A Soft Exchange” on Synthpop Reviews.  Last week I posted a video from Elegant Machinery and if you haven’t checked them out, scroll down and take a listen. In the review, the bands Universal Poplab (sweden) and Midnight Resistance (germany) are mentioned.  Both are great examples of modern synthpop that owes a lot to the synthpop of the 80s. I haven’t yet found a video for Midnight Resistance, but here is Universal Poplab’s  “New Baby Boom”, enjoy!

elegant MACHINERY

September 25, 2009

“Move” is the second single from the new album “A Soft Exchange” from scandinavian synthpop group  elegant MACHINERY.  These guys have a pretty retro 80s sound.  The vocals reminded me of OMD (Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark) and the music reminds me of the Pet Shop Boys, in addition to other 80s bands.
