MTV EMA‘s were held in Berlin on Nov. 6, which was last Friday. Ok, so I finally watched the the EMA’s online and was very disappointed. I felt like I was watching a second chance VMAs! Not many European performers… most of the performers were American (many of the awards went to Americans as well). I do realize that the winners are supposedly voted on by the fans but I would like to have seen fewer Americans on stage that’s all. Nothing against Americans, I am one, but I watched this show in hopes of seeing some performances from artists that I may not be that familiar with.
I would like to have at least seen artists that are more relevant than Green Day and Foo Fighters. As much as I like both bands, they are yesterday’s news. There was a very interesting medley performed by Katy Perry to kick the show off and then the night ended with a performance by U2 with Jay-Z.
That being said, my favorite performance of the night (hands down!) was by German band Tokio Hotel, who won the award for Best Group. Tokio Hotel have sold almost 3 million albums and dvds in Germany alone and won last year’s VMA for Best New Artist and EMA for Headliner. They are also the youngest band to top the charts in Germany. Here is the video for their song, “Monsoon” produced in 2007
and here is the same song in german, produced in 2005
and here is a clip from their performance at this years EMAs
