1.21 gigawatts of 80s in the sounds of the future!

It seems to me that innovation in music usually happens when an artist goes “back to the future.”  Artists will generally build upon what has been done before using sounds, styles, and structures from the past to create the music of the future…

This blog is about modern music that sounds like the 80s.  This includes many modern synthpop, new wave and electro artists (this is just a starting point, there are many genres and sub-genres that fit into the theme of this blog). Artists in these styles usually owe a lot of their sound to the increased use of synthesizers that happened in the 1980s, along with the disco/dance music from the 1970s and beyond.

I’m always looking for new sounds. I love music, I love the 80s and I love pop. I’m interested in how popular music comes to sound the way it does, particularly how sounds and styles from the past reappear in the music of today. I love finding out about new artists and sharing new music…

Since the 80s saw the dawn of the music video era and MTV, I’m going to try to post videos instead of just music. So kick back and enjoy some modern day synthpop/new wave videos and let me know what you think!
